Go on a virtual gallery tour of The Drawing Room in The Mint Museum’s “Classic Black” exhibition
Curator Brian Gallagher takes visitors on a virtual tour of the third gallery, or drawing room, where fashionable hosts would entertain guests in the 18th century, in The Mint Museum’s Classic Black: The Basalt Sculpture of Josiah Wedgwood and His Contemporaries exhibition.
The exhibition is on view at Mint Museum Randolph through January 2021. The exhibition is divided into three rooms. The third room is the drawing room, the most public of spaces in a person’s home. It includes a myriad of decorative vases that would be displayed for decorative purposes throughout the room.
Overall, the exhibition is a visual feast: Not only is it the first exhibition in the world to focus on black basalt sculpture, but the presentation is completely contemporary. The Mint worked with the local muralist and street artist known as Owl to help design the spaces with a graphic language that complements the stunning works.
