CANCELED: A Passion for Porcelain with Delhom Service League
April 21 @ 10:00 AM
PLEASE NOTE: This event has been canceled. Please check our page dedicated to updates on COVID-19.
As part of the Ceramics Series, Delhom Service League presents “A Passion for Porcelain” with Leah Leitson, Ceramic artist and Professor of Ceramics at Warren Wilson College.Leah Leitson will discuss the centuries-old history of porcelain and how porcelain is intertwined with global commerce and alchemy. She is widely respected as an educator and maker of functional ware and will share how porcelain has influenced the style and process of her work.
You are encouraged to allow some time to visit the ongoing exhibition, Portals to the Past: British Ceramics 1675-1825, at Mint Museum Randolph. It showcases The Mint’s widely respected collection of British pottery and porcelain and is the perfect complement to Leitson’s talk. In her artist statement she says that her porcelain forms and surface treatments are informed by “18th and 19th Century decorative arts, particularly Rococo silver and Sèvres porcelain, where exaggerated or elongated components speak to my natural inclination toward balance and design. My imagination comes to life at the confluence of this historical foundation and my contemporary observations.”
