A Train To Somewhere: All Aboard the Giving Train

In Alson Skinner Clark’s signature exhibition work, In the Lock, Miraflores 1913, as well as in the art of Charlotte-born artist Romare Bearden, the train is symbolic in connecting people. The Mint train will lead participants to see the exhibition Connecting the World: The Panama Canal at 100, the museum’s permanent Romare Bearden gallery, and to share in a journey of culture and diversity through visual and performing art by local artists. Collaborating Partner for the Giving Train event is Charlotte Mecklenburg Black Chamber of Commerce and featured artists include: Jonathan Strayhorn (tap), Quentin Talley (acting), Valaida Fullwood (oration), Ana Lucia Divins (vocal), Claudia Soria (visual), Kurma Murrain and Jose Vasquez (poetry), and Curtis King (visual).

ADMISSION: Free, with a donated gift. Cash donations will support one-year Mint memberships for area school students, or a poetry or chapter book donation is welcomed. School students from Ranson Middle (a Project L.I.F.T. school) and Metro School (for those with intellectual or developmental disabilities) will benefit. You can purchase your books in the Mint Museum Shop, which will be offering several holiday specials and a “Wine on Wednesdays” cash bar with buy-one, get-one-free wine which you are free to bring upstairs to the Grand Room during this event! Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
