ASC Connect with Culture Day
January 26 @ 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
The Mint Museum joins with the Arts & Science Council and other cultural partners to offer free admission for ASC Connect with Culture Day! This is a great opportunity to bring a NEW friend of family member who has never experienced the Mint for a FREE cultural experience!
Bring your family and friends to the Mint Museum for a full day of art adventure! Escape the winter chill and explore current exhibitions including Under Construction: Postwar Collage from The Mint Museum and Michael Sherrill Retrospective, visit the Lewis Family Gallery, enjoy live music from a local ensemble, and see the premiere of hollowed, a new piece inspired by the Mint Museum’s collection and performed by Emily Cargill and Dancers, at Noon and 1 PM in the Atrium.
Emily Cargill and Dancers (ECD) wants to broaden Charlotte dance on a regional/national scale – touring work to other cities as well as bringing professional dance communities to the Charlotte area. ECD creates work that artistically and physically pushes boundaries, exploring movement that is bold, honest, intimate, and real. Founder and choreographer, Emily Cargill, encourages collaboration and an ongoing exchange of ideas between herself and the company members. The Charlotte-based company has presented work all over the east coast, from Atlanta, to NYC, to Detroit, to Richmond, to Durham, to Tampa. Her work has been presented at the Art on the Atlanta Beltline, High Museum of Art, Skwirlhaus Theatre, Emory University’s Performing Arts Studio, Dance Canvas’ 2016 & 2017 Emerging Choreographer Initiative, New Grounds Dance Festival, New Seeds Festival, OneSpark Festival, Modern Atlanta Dance Festival, Richmond Choreographic Initiative, Detroit Dance City Festival, North Carolina Dance Festival and the NYC10 Dance Festival. Emily Cargill and Dancers’ newest work, hollowed, which will premiere at The Mint Museum in association with the city-wide Connect with Culture Day, explores the generosity of shared human experiences and investigates what happens when we shed the multiple layers of residue and skin as we tumble through the inconsistencies of life.
Saturday, January 26, 11 AM – 6 PM
