Delhom Service League: Size Matters (Lecture)

November 18, 2014 | 5:30 PM

Size Matters: From the Intimate to the Super-human Object, How Size Affects the Viewer, the User and the Maker

Speaker: Denny Gerwin, Queens University of Charlotte professor of Art 3D (ceramics)

“My sculpture work deals with heavy, dark concepts on the larger than human scale while seducing the viewer with craft and unexpected structures. My pots are generally lighter and happier, and are meant to be touched, sipped from, clunked around, etc. If my sculptures were an apocalypse, the pots would be the subsequent recovery. My process of dealing with larger than life issues that are really scary and hard, then recovering with intimate objects that are soft and tangible has pushed both bodies of work in those directions.” — Denny Gerwin
