Remembering the Artistry & Times of Romare Bearden & Maya Angelou: Art, Poetry & Music

In recognizing February as Black History Month, local visual and performing artists will salute in memory two African-American legends with strong North Carolina ties: Charlotte-born artist Romare Bearden and Winston-Salem’s Maya Angelou; poet, actress and author, with works on easel, the spoken word, digital imagery, singing, a theatrical excerpt and jazz music.
Guests will be able to take a self guided tour of the exhibition Conversations: Romare Bearden and Richard Hunt and the Contemporary Art Gallery to view numerous works by African-American artists prior to or following the program.
Featured local visual and performing artists include Yolanda Bynum, Tiffany Capers, Sean Mason, Brock and Charli Montgomery, Lee Stewart, Jon Strayhorn, Stacy Utley, Quentin Talley and Symphony Webber.
