See All Three Tour
October 22, 2017 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PMFREE to Sustainer, Benefactor, and Crown Society members
SEE ALL THREE
Our appearance defines us – whether we craft a persona out of couture or choose the path of least resistance. Our clothes determine how we move, how we feel, how we interact with the outside world. They guide our perception and how others perceive us.
Join Levine Center for the Arts curators and experts for the next See All Three event where they discuss these issues through the works on view at Mint Museum Uptown, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.
Tour begins at the Mint with Rebecca Elliot, Assistant Curator of Craft, Design, & Fashion, leading a tour of their latest exhibition, William Ivey Long: Costume Designs 2007-2016. See how Long’s costume designs help to create characters and tell stories in this exhibition featuring finished costumes along with sketches, fabric swatches, and other preparatory materials from seven productions, including Broadway shows, television specials, and the outdoor drama The Lost Colony.
Then, participants visit Paul Strand in Mexico with curator Jen Sudul Edwards, who will discuss how the photographer Paul Strand used the traditional dress of his subjects to define villagers in Mexico.
We end at the Gantt Center with a tour of Simple Passion, Complex Vision: The Darryl Atwell Collection. Alexys Taylor, Collections & Exhibitions Manager, will lead a dynamic discussion featuring contemporary artists who confront social inequities through costumes and fabric.
The tours end with a complimentary wine and cheese reception at the Gantt.
Tours are open to Sustainer, Benefactor, and Crown Society members of the Mint. Want to join or upgrade your membership? Click here or contact Thesha Woodley, email@example.com or 704.337.2041. Space is limited and advance RSVP is required.
