CANCELED: Art of Reading Tour: The Warmth of Other Suns
PLEASE NOTE: This event has been canceled. Please check our page dedicated to updates on COVID-19.
Isabel Wilkerson’s 2011 book, The Warmth of Other Suns, follows three individuals, representative of the six million Black Southerners who participated in the Great Migration to northern or western destinations. These millions of people left harsh, dangerous, and potentially fatal conditions in the south with the hope of a better life. The Wall Street Journal’s review of the work states, “Ms. Wilkerson does for the Great Migration what John Steinbeck did for the Okies in his fiction masterpiece, The Grapes of Wrath…” After a discussion of the book, take a docent-led tour of selected works that enhance this work.
