About

The Mint has collected fashion for more than 40 years, and celebrates the art form with three extraordinary exhibitions during 2017-2018.

The Mint Museum has been collecting historic and contemporary fashions for over 40 years. Fashion is one of the most engaging and meaningful art forms, with rich aesthetic and cultural associations through the ages. Beginning in fall 2017 and continuing through spring and summer 2018, you are invited to join the Mint in its celebration of the “Year of Fashion.”

  • William Ivey Long: Costume Designs 2007-2016 , September 23, 2017 – June 3, 2018, Mint Museum Uptown. Celebrate Broadway’s Tony Award-winning costume designer, featuring ensembles by this N.C. native from shows including “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”
  • Charlotte Collects: Contemporary Couture and Fabulous Fashion , October 14, 2017 -February 4, 2018, Mint Museum Randolph. Take an intimate look at important designs in the collections of several fashion leaders in the Charlotte community, from exquisite creations by Giambattista Valli to innovative designs by Issey Miyake.
  • Oscar de la Renta  exhibition, April 29 – July 29, 2018, Mint Museum Randolph. Organized in close collaboration with Oscar de la Renta LLC and curated by André Leon Talley, former editor-at-large for American Vogue and current contributing editor, The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta contains dozens of fashions made during the span of de la Renta’s career in Spain, Paris, and New York.

If you want to support these events and provide critical operating funds to continue the study, conservation, and collection of fashion, please consider becoming one of the Mint’s Friends of Fashion. Contact Kitty Hall at kitty.hall@mintmuseum.org or 704.337.2034.
